Snow Guidelines for Winter 2023-2024

Our snow contractor asked us to make sure everyone is aware of the following important points:

  • You are responsible for staking your sidewalks and driveways, as the contractor is not responsible for damage caused to unmarked roads, driveways, and sidewalks. When staking your property, stagger the stakes; do not place them directly across from each other. He recommends placing the stakes 2-3 inches off the sidewalk, as the crew uses those stakes as guides to help them locate the center of the sidewalk.
  • Solar lights along the sidewalk should be removed for the winter.
  • Please edge your sidewalks before November 1st. The slabs range from 48-50” in width, but many of them are overgrown down to 43”. The contractor’s fully-angled plow is 44” wide, and the snow blower is 46” wide. This is important, because the contractor is not responsible for sod/lawn damage when the slab is fewer than 48” in plowable width.
  • Please do not let children play on or in snow banks when the crews are working. The drivers cannot see inside or all around the snow banks, which makes playing on or in the snow banks extremely dangerous if they collapse or suddenly get filled in with a lot of snow from a plow.
  • Keep your driveways clear if you want the crew to remove snow from them. Although the crew might have better maneuverability with snow blowers, they do not want to risk damaging either your vehicles or their equipment by accidentally hitting them. We hope that the contractor will not damage any property, but it is safest for you to mark the corners and edges of your driveways and sidewalks to minimize the risk.
